Anthropic, one of the leading companies developing artificial intelligence, filed for a public listing on Monday in what experts say could be the largest initial public offering (IPO) in history. However, Dario Amodei, Anthropic’s chief executive, warns that advanced artificial intelligence could pose an existential threat to humanity, the AP reports.

The filing prepares the San Francisco-based company for a Wall Street debut next month that could eclipse SpaceX’s June initial public offering, which raised a record $86 billion. An Anthropic IPO would also put the company ahead of OpenAI in terms of going public, in a series of successful IPOs for rival artificial intelligence labs.

An initial public offering could give Anthropic enormous resources to accelerate its expansion. The amount the company will ultimately raise remains uncertain, as does the final valuation and offering price, but even at lower estimates, it would turn the five-year-old startup into one of the most valuable companies in the world and could increase the fortunes of CEO Dario Amodei and his sister and co-founder, Daniela, by billions of dollars.

The 335-page document showed that Anthropic’s revenue is growing rapidly, reaching more than $16 billion in the first half of the year — 14 times more than the revenue recorded in the same period last year. But like many other tech companies that go public, the creator of the chatbot Claude has yet to turn a profit.
Anthropic could be valued at over $1.5 trillion, despite losses
Despite the losses, Anthropic, valued at $965 billion by private investors in early 2026, is expected to see its value rise to $1.5 trillion or possibly $2 trillion, although its final valuation has not yet been determined, sources cited by the AP said. At $1.5 trillion, Anthropic would be among the most valuable publicly traded companies in the world, alongside Tesla.
